Multiplication Tables Check

The Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) will be available as a voluntary check at the end of this year (2018/2019) to all eligible Year 4 pupils. In 2019/2020 all schools will be required to implement the test. Now the department has published a document, Multiplication Tables Check Assessment Framework, to give guidance to those who are preparing the assessment materials. In the document, it explains that more guidance will be available to schools via the annual Assessment and Reporting Arrangements (ARA) document and MTC administration guidance, which are both to be published in 2019.

The MTA will be delivered using a computer or tablet online and scores will be generated automatically out of 25. Schools will receive school-level and individual pupil results but these cannot be used as a diagnostic tool. Ofsted will have access to them but the results will not be published in a performance table.
